BOARD OKS $102 MILLION SCHOOL BUDGET.(CAPITAL REGION)

Schenectady The Board of Education agreed on a $102 million budget for 2004-2005 Wednesday night that raises property taxes 5.3 percent and cuts three jobs, including the supervisor of custodians.

By a unanimous vote -- excluding Board President Brian Ansari, who was absent -- board members agreed on a $102,261,917 spending plan, a 5.5 percent increase over last year's $96 million pact. If passed by voters May 18, residents would be hit with the lowest tax increase in at least four years, continuing a trend of declining increases.
